The Chicago String Band. This is a particularly intriguing project, for producer Pete Welding in 1966 gathered together four veteran Chicago blues musicians three of whom were playing electric blues at the time and had them re-create the style of a 1920s'30s string band. Carl Martin 60 at the time was part of the original era, and he is heard on violin and guitar. Also featured in different combinations are Johnny Young on mandolin, guitarist John Lee Granderson, and John Wrencher on harmonica all four musicians have their spots taking vocals. The music is very much in the early tradition, and the music is. Listen to music from The Chicago String Band like Hoodoo Blues, The Sun Is Sinking Low & more. This sound had not been heard on record since the early 40s. Although several members of this group had become part of the Chicago electric blues band scene they took their basic musical motivation from the older blues styles they had learned as youth in the rural South. Chicago is an American rock band formed in 1967 in Chicago, Illinois, calling themselves the Chicago Transit Authority in 1968 before shortening the name in 1969. The self-described rock and roll band with horns blended elements of classical music, jazz, R&B, and pop music. They began writing songs with politically charged lyrics, and later moved to a softer sound, generating several hit ballads. The group had a steady stream of hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
