Album

Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers is the second studio album by indie rock band the National. It was released in 2003 on Brassland Records. This is the first album on which the band worked with Peter Katis, who would produce the band's next albums Alligator and Boxer. The album is the first to feature guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Bryce Dessner as a full member. Album 2003 12 Songs. More by The National. Cherry Tree. Never Tear Us Apart - Single. The National: Deep Cuts. Toward the album's close, the songs' textures finally shift from country to indie rock. Berninger is more than content to roam pastures featuring small patches of emo, sadcore, and artsy strings, clearly wearing his influences on his sleeve. Indeed, album-opener Cardinal Song could very easily be mistaken for the Tindersticks or Cousteau, with a passage that is a virtual note for note reconstruction of a Red House Painters song. The National - Murder Me Rachael. Sad Songs is a good album but my least favourite of The National's 5 records so far but its still very strong. Lyrically it's spot on but occasionally it lacks imagination musically. There are a couple of mid tempo countryish tracks that don't particularly add anything to the record. Although I love The National's slow and mid tempo stuff on other records, here the band sounds better on the more up tempo tracks. That said - these are small complaints and there is a lot more to praise on here than there is to pick at. Murder Me Rachel and Slipping Husband show some of the b. If I had to say why this one, it would have to be the overall atmosphere. Though it contains some stellar songs in their own rightCardinal song, Lucky you, this album feels very together touching on recurring themes of love, disillusion, faithfulness, honesty. There is a lot to be discovered when diving into the lyrics. Also: This must be the single greatest album-title ever. Their sophomore album, Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers, showcased the songwriting and raw emotive power of the quintet: brothers Aaron and Bryce Dessner, brothers Bryan and Scott Devendorf and childhood friend Matt Berninger. at the outset of The National's second album, Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers, you just know these boys got it bad. Rolling Stone. The album is amazing as anything by The National is. The album came inside a nice plastic wrapping that i can keep it in and thats cool. All in all a good buy.
